As one chapter closed for the British Royal Family with the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, another opened. After many years of preparation, Charles ascended the throne as King of the United Kingdom and the 14 Commonwealth realms. His wife, Camilla, received the title of Queen Consort, as was the late Queen’s wish.
The death of Queen Elizabeth II was not only a moment of profound national grief, but also one of unity, as people across Britain mourned the loss of a monarch who had been a constant presence in their lives.
Queen Elizabeth reigned for 70 years—longer than any other British monarch—becoming both a maternal and later a grandmotherly figure, as well as a symbolic bridge between the past and modern British history. During her reign, the nation experienced significant social changes, triumphs, and challenges, all of which she approached with dignity and wisdom.
As the Royal Family gradually returns to its routine, King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla have taken on a full schedule of engagements. This transition, however, requires King Charles to step back from some of the charitable work he carried out as Prince of Wales.
One major matter that remains unresolved is the strained relationship between King Charles and his younger son, Prince Harry.
According to royal experts, the situation may not be as tense as it once was, and recent actions by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex suggest efforts toward improvement. With much public attention on the Royal Family, it has been revealed that Prince Harry plans to release a memoir later this year. Many anticipate that the book will address long-standing family issues, leaving the potential impact on his relationship with the Royal Family uncertain.
In addition to Harry, Meghan Markle has also been outspoken in her criticism of the monarchy. While her statements once appeared to cause irreparable damage, time has shifted public perception. Some now believe the Sussexes may eventually return to Britain, while others dismiss this as unlikely.
According to Page Six, King Charles has reportedly referred to Meghan as “Tungsten”—a steel-grey metal known for its exceptional strength and high melting point.
In her book The New Royals, author Katie Nicholl explains:
“It was, according to one aide, the moment William and Kate, who was heavily pregnant at the time, realized they needed to up their game.
“The Cambridges—now the Prince and Princess of Wales—had already demonstrated their intention to be more than ceremonial royals and had, alongside Harry, achieved great success with their mental health initiative, Heads Together.
“But Meghan was the breakout star of the foursome. She was polished, passionate, and charismatic, using her television experience to communicate effectively. According to a source, it was a wake-up moment for William and Kate, who recognized that Meghan was impressive, confident, and highly capable.”
We sincerely hope that the Royal Family will be able to resolve their differences in the near future.
