
Herbed Mushroom & Gruyère Pastry Plait🍄🍄🍄
Ingredients
For the Mushroom Filling
2 tbsp olive oil
1 medium onion, finely diced
3 cups mushrooms, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp fresh thyme leaves
1 tsp fresh rosemary, finely chopped
Salt & black pepper to taste
1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
For the Pastry
1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Optional Garnish
Extra grated Gruyère
Fresh thyme sprigs
Directions
Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté onion until soft and translucent.
Add mushrooms and cook until moisture evaporates and mushrooms are golden.
Stir in garlic, thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper. Cook 1 minute, then remove from heat.
Allow mixture to cool slightly, then stir in grated Gruyère.
Roll out puff pastry onto the prepared baking tray. Spoon mushroom mixture down the center lengthwise.
Cut diagonal strips on both sides of the pastry and fold alternately over the filling to form a plait.
Brush pastry with beaten egg.
Bake for 25–30 minutes until puffed and deeply golden.
Sprinkle with extra Gruyère and garnish with thyme if desired.
Slice and serve warm as a savory appetizer or vegetarian main.
